Huh? Marksman's Wager is a Preparation, not an attack skill. Activating it doesn't cause you to shoot.

Eh. I've never really found a good use for this. The energy regain ability is nice on paper, but just tends to suck in a real match.

I've found this quite useful in mercenary groups as a ranger/monk support healing. Click your preperation, then spam heal your team. Bring along dual shot for a large energy jump and keep spamming your heals. The only downside of this is the short duration and recast time.
It's just useful for using gimp heals and not downing your entire energy pool in the process.

great skill for interupting. become a r/n. bring spinal shivers, icey bowstring, short bow, tigers fury, and things that make u atk faster. start by using spinal shiver on monk or caster. then put marksmanship on and get as close to him as u can and fire away. if u get lucky ul interupt everyone of his spells, using little energy.

The ranger boss in Elona Reach uses it (if he is not in that mission, he should be in dunes of despair) You could also check the skill database
I have found few uses for this skill, though I like klmpee's idea. The only time I place it on my bar is when I go interrupt, as I can then use concussion shot and still keep my energy at a reasonable level for debilitating shot and distracting shot, as well as any stances I might be using.

It's in neither of those missions to my knowledge. Best place to look is thirsty river. The ranger boss being there is guaranteed to be there. Not worth the elite as far as i'm concerned though.

Strange and you don't see it used much but a ranger warder using marksmans for energy and serpants for recharge works pretty well.

This skill isn't so much for a Ranger using Ranger skills, but for classes with a Ranger secondary or Rangers using their secondary's skills. Cast some expensive stuff, hit Marksman's Wager, plink plink plink, and voila, refilled energy bar. Repeat. As a R/Me, I got good usage out of this when focusing on my Mesmer skills.
A pure Ranger will have Expertise cranked up and thus won't tend to need quick energy refills.

heres the equation to figure out how much energy you gain from this- if every single arrow hits.
Duration: 12 seconds. If you're using a short bow, thats 12 shots. You have 12 expertise.
Initial Cost: ABOUT 2.5 energy.
Every hit will give 9 energy. 9 x 12 = 108. 108 - 2.5 = 105.5 You gain 105.5 energy from using this. BUT! Lets say you miss 25% of the time. so 3 times you miss. -30 energy and the 9 times you do hit. So we redo the equation.
9 x 9 = 81 - 30 = 51.
Average those out and you get 78.25. So with 12 expertise you can gain an average 78.25 energy with this if you use a shortbow. Use a longbow and you get an average of 39.125 energy gained.

I really enjoy this elite. It combos beautifully with duel shot. It works really well with my ranger. It only takes 3 reguler shots for ur energy to be at max. And, you barely ever miss. You just have to be wise when u choose what to shoot.

Shortbows naturally fire one shot every 2 seconds, for only 6 shots during the duration. If you add in an IAS, they fire at 1 shot every 1.33 seconds, meaning 9 shots while Marksman's is up.

Ohh gotcha. I've been experimenting with Marksman's Wager and Dual Shot along with Serpent's Quickness and Lightning Reflexes (I use LR after Serpent wear off and is still recharging) - it's very nice. I haven't decided which I prefer - SQ or LR although so I can use extra slot for something else.
